FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Which platforms does it support?

Chat Privacy Screen works on WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com), Telegram Web (web.telegram.org), and Arattai (web.arattai.in). All three are covered by a single install — no extra configuration needed.

How do I turn the blur on or off?

Click the Chat Privacy Screen icon in the Chrome toolbar. The side panel opens. Use the master toggle at the top.

You can also press Alt+Shift+P — it toggles blur across all open supported tabs at once, without leaving the page.

Can I blur only specific things?

Yes. In the side panel, toggle Names & groups, Messages, Profile pictures, and Your draft independently. Settings apply across all supported platforms.

The blur stopped working after an app update. What do I do?

WhatsApp Web and Telegram Web occasionally ship UI changes that break CSS selectors. Check for an extension update — open chrome://extensions in a new tab and click Update.

If no update is available yet, report it below and we'll push a fix.

Does the extension read or store my messages?

No. The extension never reads message content. It only applies CSS blur classes to the page. No data leaves your device. See the privacy policy for full details.

What is auto-lock?

When enabled, the extension automatically turns blur on after a set period of inactivity — 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 5 minutes. Configure it in the side panel.

Does it work in Incognito?

Not by default. Open chrome://extensions in a new tab, find Chat Privacy Screen, and enable Allow in Incognito.
