FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
How do I turn the blur on or off?
Click the WA Privacy Screen icon in the Chrome toolbar. The side panel opens. Use the master toggle at the top.
Can I blur only specific things?
Yes. In the side panel, toggle Names & groups, Messages, Profile pictures, and Your draft independently.
The blur stopped working after a WhatsApp update. What do I do?
WhatsApp Web occasionally ships UI changes that break CSS selectors.
Check for an extension update — open chrome://extensions in a new tab and click Update.
If no update is available yet, report it below and we'll push a fix.
Does the extension read or store my messages?
No. The extension never reads message content. It only applies CSS blur classes to the page. No data leaves your device. See the privacy policy for full details.
How do I use the keyboard shortcut?
Press Alt+Shift+P on any WhatsApp Web tab to toggle blur on/off without opening the side panel.
What is auto-lock?
When enabled, the extension automatically turns blur on after a set period of inactivity — 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 5 minutes. Configure it in the side panel.
Does it work in Incognito?
Not by default. Open chrome://extensions in a new tab, find WA Privacy Screen,
and enable Allow in Incognito.
